I Was Hit-On For The First Time

I Was Hit-On For The First Time

I was hit-on for the first time in my entire life. I am not talking about the mutual flirting in clubs back in my heyday. No, that to me is not being hit upon, that was mutual flirtation, that was lust and wanting; I am talking about when I was in my early 20s, unmarried, and in the Navy. You know, back in my “drinking” days.

I Was Hit On For The First Time

Then, of course, one sobers up – grows up – marries – starts a family – establishes a career – and becomes an adult and responsible. And one goes on about one’s life….fast forward to current time.

Last week, I went to Atlanta for a few days of job training. I like to workout when I am traveling and visit other CrossFit boxes.

The CrossFit box I found near me was about 4 to 5 miles away from my hotel and the only class I could attend was the 7:00pm class. So by the time I get back to my hotel it is around 8:30pm and I am fairly hungry. I decide to pick something up at the hotel’s Bistro for dinner and take it up to my room. Because you know, I am hot, stinky, sweaty, and gross from working out.

As I enter the Bistro I noticed a man sitting at a table with a beer and a laptop, and he is facing away from the Bistro. I go and order my food, and then continue to stand around for about 10 minutes waiting for my food. As I am waiting, I continue to observe my surroundings and notice that the man is now facing me, instead of facing away like he was when I walked in.

Okay, no big deal, maybe he had a glare on his computer screen. Whatever.

So now my food is ready, I pay and head to the elevator. The elevator doors are about to close when all of a sudden they go back open and guess what? It is the guy. And he’s out of breath like he hurried up and grabbed his stuff to get to my elevator.

As soon as the doors close he starts up a conversation, “Did you get a pizza?”

“No, it’s a quesadilla.”

“Are you here for work or vacation?”

“Work.”

The doors open and I head to my room. He is also on this floor apparently because he exits the elevator too! I head left, he heads right. Whew!

I’m thirsty and know I will be drinking a lot of water so I grab my ice bucket from my room and head to the ice machine.

He’s there too. He strikes up another conversation.

“What line of work do you do?”

“Car business.”

“Well, hey, I am alone here, do you wanna go grab a beer?”

“No thank you, I don’t drink.”

And feeling very awkward right about now because all I want to do is go back to my room but not wanting to feel rude I say, “Well, I’m Carol, nice to meet you.”

“I’m Joe.” Not using his real name here.

I head back to my room and he heads back to his in the opposite direction but stops to yell back at me, “Are you sure you don’t want to go grab a beer if you do I’ll be downstairs!”

I wonder if he knew he was hitting on a 50-year old woman? He was obviously drunk or tipsy already, I could smell it. I mean, that is being hit-on, right?

When I get safely back in my room I crack up and call The Gent to let him know that I was hit on for the first time in my life. We had a good giggle over it.

Thanks for reading.
