Merry Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve

It’s Saturday, December 24, 2011 – Christmas Eve.

All the shopping is done, packages are wrapped, plans are made, family is together, and traditions have commenced; old and new.

Every Christmas I think about my childhood a little more than usual. Amazingly I do have good memories. I remember getting a 10-speed bicycle one year, and I cried over it. Or when I was about 8 years old I received a pair of brand-spanking-new pristine white ice skates, and I loved them so much that I slept with them. Have you ever seen the move, “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie sleeps with his brand new bee-bee gun? Yeah.

I also remember certain Christmas ornaments and decorations. My grandmother knitted me a Rudolph the Red Nosed-Reindeer Christmas stocking and Rudolph’s nose was made of a red pom-pom. Then, there was this Christmas ornament that I just adored, even as a very young child. It was a baby Jesus tucked away in a walnut shell. Someone obviously made it. It wasn’t me, or at least I don’t remember making it. I would LOVE to have that ornament but I doubt my mother still possesses it.

Anyway, I have provided a couple of photographs of the stocking and ornament. These are NOT mine. I did some Googling and was astounded that I was able to find these in the first place on the Internet. But then again, it IS the Internet. That baby Jesus ornament is exactly the one I remember I had growing up. Except my baby Jesus had dark hair but other than that, it is exactly like the one I had; red and white checkered “blanket” and all.

Tonight, the marathon begins for A Christmas Story. Yes, we will have it on our television all night long and into Christmas morning.

What are some of your “A Christmas Story” memories?
