My Nemesis is the topic for today’s #BlogSpringFever and I knew immediately which nemesis I wanted to share with you. I have a few.
But the first two that come to mind right away are the ones I want to write about. They are awful and miserable. They always induce pain and sometimes make me grimace when I simply think about them. And yet I find myself going back to face and challenge them on a regular basis.
Wall Balls and Burpees.
Wall Balls – a whole body movement with a 14 lb. ball. Squat and stand up to throw the ball to a 9-foot target overhead, catch the ball and do it again, over and over and over again.
Oh yes, looks so easy doesn’t it? Do not be deceived. DO. NOT. BE. DECEIVED. But it is a fabulously simple movement and great little workout. If there is nothing else you can do, then start with these suckers. Start with a beach ball, volleyball, or soccer ball if you have to.
Then there are the burpees. OH. EM. GEE.
You don’t need a ball or weights or even a gym to perform these little bad boys.
Beware, while this movement looks super easy, do not be fooled.
Notice how you are supposed to go all the way down to the ground where your chest and thighs are touching the ground? Yep, I had been doing them wrong for a couple of years before I started CrossFit. But that’s okay, I probably needed to be doing the scaled version back then. Cause damn.
These wear me out faster than anything at CrossFit.
My endurance, or stamina, is not anything award winning by any stretch of the imagination. It is probably due to years and years of smoking and while I’ve been off the cigarettes for over two years now, I still have difficulty with running, rowing, or anything related to cardio.
So this is the reason I have chosen these two as my nemesis; my inability to do very many of them at once without getting worn out quickly.
Ciao Mio Amore,
