Well, it is finally here, Thanksgiving Day! The bird went in the oven at 8:00AM and The Kids and I went to the special edition Boot Camp at 8:30AM. We had fun and it was incentive, for me, to have pie. Heh.
Anyway, I decided to go ahead and break out the good plates and settings and tablecloth and all. I had to take pictures of the whole process, because it is fun to do!
I was glad that both kids were here today. I am thankful for our good health and our conservative traditions, values, and our somewhat vagueness of normalcy. It was fun preparing all the food. I started last night with the dressing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
This morning we finished everything off with the creamy green beans with mushrooms and spiced smashed sweet potato orange cups.

So yeah, it has been a great day. It’s gone by too quickly but still a great day.
Tomorrow The Kids and I are headed to Birmingham for a day of shopping. Wish us luck! I don’t know what to expect because I’ve never been out on Black Friday before but I think it will be okay. We aren’t camping out anywhere or getting up at 3:00AM, nothing drastic like that, just going to meander and take our time.
Oh, all of the dishes I prepared for our Thanksgiving Day feast was found on simplyrecipes.com – I love that site. It is super simple to use and get around on, not a lot of advertisements getting in the way and a good story to go along with each recipe. It also has a “recipe box” where you can save your favorites and that is exactly what I did when I found each dish I wanted to prepare for the meal. I saved it to my recipe box for easy retrieval later. Also, I ran my grocery list right from that site as well. Awesome! What I mean is that there is an option to convert all the recipes into a grocery list you can print off. Quite useful.

Holiday Spiced Sweet Potatoes, ** but I did mine a little big different.
Creamy Green Beans and Mushrooms, found this to be a little more grown up and sophisticated than my usual green bean casserole. I’ll be using this one again.
Suzanne’s Old Fashion Pumpkin Pie (have no idea who Suzanne is)
I’ll be using all of these recipes again. They were easy and delicious.
** The spiced mashed sweet potatoes I did were simple. Still used the same ingredients this recipe called for but I peeled, cut up, and boiled my sweet potatoes then mashed them up. Add in butter, brown sugar, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and freshly squeezed orange juice (about 1/4 cup). Then, once the sweet potatoes are mashed up, put them in the halved and cored out orange cups. Sprinkle with brown sugar and put on pecans if you want. Place in oven just for a heat up or to keep warm until rest of meal is ready.
