Every once in a while I like to list the unusual things I am grateful for in today’s world. I know, most people say that they are grateful for their health, their families & friends, their jobs and all that good stuff. And yes, I am grateful for all of that too.
I used to write on a daily basis, making a list, of things I am grateful for but the rule was this, I had to list things that were unusual. Everyone can list the usual stuff like health, family, and jobs. But for me, that sort of just gives lip service to being grateful. Writing an unusual list makes me stop and really think about how good I really have it.
Again, this used to be a daily thing. At the end of each day, I’d go over my day and find things I was grateful for. So here is my list for the last few weeks I suppose of unusual gratitude:
Heat – I am grateful for, and to the person, who created heat for the indoors. Lately, it’s been a little chilly in Alabama.
Coffee – I am grateful for, and to the person, who discovered the coffee bean and then thought to make it into a liquid to drink! I guess I should also go ahead and be grateful to whomever invented the coffee maker too!
New York City – for giving me something to aspire to. There’s just something about you New York City that I love so much and want to be around. I love you. I can say the same thing about Rome, Italy but it is a different kind of love with you.
Google – I can find anything.
Blogs and Bloggers – getting to read other blogs and being inspired all of the time. And some of the people I’ve met via blogging are awesome! I am not alone!
Clothes – I am so glad we all put clothes on our bodies. Thank you. I realize I am probably thanking sinfulness for this one. Still, I think we’d still end up putting clothing on our bodies, even if we were sinless, cause you know, the wintertime!
Texting – I hate talking on the phone. I’d much prefer to text with you. I don’t know who invented texting, but thank you! I still remember the first text I ever received. I was all like, “What the hell is this?” And then I fell in love. And yes, I was in my bathroom when my first-ever text came in. What is it with bathrooms and texting? That’s pretty much my norm. “What the hell is this?” And in the next breath, “Oh, I love it.“
Cosmetologists – more specifically, people who cut and style hair. Thank you. Cause, you know, think about it for a minute.
Stilettos, High Heels, Platforms – I am a short person. I am only 5’2″ and I like a very tall high-heel and I love a good platform. I feel better when I am taller.
Twitter – oh my gosh, I love Twitter and I’m grateful to the folks behind this one. I love getting little bursts of information from the world without having to interact with anyone. I can interact only if I want to.
The Hide Button on Facebook – I don’t think I need to say more about this one.
Diversity – it helps keep me on my toes and open-minded, learning. I realize this seems contradictory to number 11 and I’m okay with it.
Vaseline and Baby Oil – now, before you go “there” it is because my hands are very dry and I’d be in constant pain if it weren’t for me slathering Vaseline all over my hands. And the Baby Oil? I like to put it on right after I shower and before toweling off. I love the smell of Baby Oil too. It helps keep my skin ever so soft and subtle. Oy, especially in the wintertime.
Paper and Pen – I still like to write longhand. I do something called Morning Pages every single day, at 0400 and it is therapeutic for me. One of these days, though, I am going to have to have a little burn party for all of my journals cause nobody wants to get a hold of that! I have names listed in there. Heh.
Scarves – for keeping my neck warm at all times.
Okay, I think I can stop here. I have a ton more I could list. But I want to know what YOUR unusual gratitude list may look like so that is the Question of the Week. Please leave a comment.
I may have to make this a regular thing on the blog.
